dc.description.abstract | The purpose of the present work was to design, formulate and characterize dental film containing Etoricoxib. It is belong to a BCS class II drug. It is a synthetic, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) with antipyretic, analgesic, and potential anti-neoplastic properties. Etoricoxib specifically binds to and inhibits the enzyme cyclooxygenase-2, resulting in inhibition of the conversion of arachidonic acid into prostaglandins. The dental films were prepared by solvent evaporation technique by using different polymer concentration of HPMC E15 and Eudragit RL 100. Preformulation studies were carried out to understand the physiochemical nature of drug in presence of different excipients under various conditions to provide selection of appropriate excipients. The developed films were evaluated for the physical characteristics such as weight variation, thickness, folding endurance, drug content, moisture absorption, moisture loss, surface pH and in-vitro drug release. The characterization results of the selected formulation have shown that the selected materials and method were suitable for the preparation of dental film of etoricoxib. The drug dissolution studies have shown that there is an initial burst release of 23.3 % in 15 min. followed by a sustained release pattern i.e. upto 97 % in 6 h. Thus, this can be concluded that the prepared dental film can provide immediate effect followed by sustain analgesic effect in management of dental pain or toothache than the other marketed formulations like tablets and gels. | en_US |
